About SWP Calculator

What is SWP?

Systematic Withdrawal Plan (SWP) is a method of withdrawing money from your investments at regular intervals. It's the opposite of SIP (Systematic Investment Plan). SWP is particularly useful for retirees or anyone who needs regular income from their investments while keeping their money invested and growing.

What Does This Calculator Do?

Our SWP Calculator helps you understand how long your investment corpus will last based on:

  • Your current corpus (total invested amount)
  • Expected annual rate of return on your investments
  • Monthly withdrawal amount you need
  • Expected inflation rate (to maintain purchasing power)

The calculator shows you if your corpus will last indefinitely (more than 100 years) or how many years and months it will sustain your withdrawal plan.

How to Use

  1. Enter Your Current Corpus: Input the total amount you have invested or saved (e.g., ₹10,00,000 for ten lakhs)
  2. Set Expected Annual Return: Enter the expected annual percentage return on your investments. For conservative estimates, use 6-8%. For equity-heavy portfolios, 10-12% might be appropriate.
  3. Enter Monthly Withdrawal: Specify how much you need to withdraw each month. This is your regular income from the corpus.
  4. Add Expected Inflation: Include the expected annual inflation rate (typically 4-7% in India). This ensures your monthly withdrawal increases each year to maintain purchasing power.
  5. Review Results: The calculator will show you:
    • How long your corpus will last (or if it will last forever)
    • Visual chart showing corpus depletion/growth over time
    • How your monthly withdrawal increases with inflation
    • Final corpus value at the end of the period

Understanding the Results

When Corpus Lasts Forever

If the calculator shows "More than 100 years," it means your returns exceed your withdrawals. Your corpus will not only sustain indefinitely but may also grow over time. This is the ideal scenario for retirement planning.

When Corpus Depletes

If the calculator shows a specific number of years, your corpus will be fully withdrawn by that time. You may need to:

  • Reduce your monthly withdrawal amount
  • Increase your corpus before starting withdrawals
  • Look for investments with higher returns
  • Consider other income sources to supplement SWP

Important Considerations

  • ⚠️Market Volatility: Returns are not guaranteed and will vary with market conditions
  • ⚠️Tax Implications: Consider capital gains tax on withdrawals
  • ⚠️Emergency Fund: Keep a separate emergency fund; don't rely solely on SWP corpus
  • ⚠️Regular Review: Review and adjust your SWP plan annually based on actual returns
  • ⚠️Asset Allocation: Maintain appropriate asset allocation for your risk profile
